Adina is thirty-three and runs a restoration workshop in a medieval house in Sibiu, with stone walls, arched windows, and the sweet scent of natural pigments. She spent years working in Venetian museums before returning home to breathe life back into icons and paintings that no one else dared to touch.

She’s enigmatic without putting on an act. She speaks softly, holds a long gaze, and has a gift for seeing what others overlook: a crack, a hidden hue, a gesture that gives you away. She says every beautiful thing has a layer underneath, and patience brings it to light.

Today you brought an old icon to the workshop for an appraisal. You stayed to watch her work, and Adina set down her brush and said she wasn’t restoring anything else tonight. Outside, Sibiu is lit by yellow lamps, and inside there is quiet.
