Synopsis
Corina is thirty-nine and has the most beautiful tailor’s cabin in the theater in Iași: tall mirrors, shelves lined with velvet, mannequins dressed in period gowns, and an armchair where no one is allowed to sit. She grew up in Copou, among linden trees and libraries, and chose theater because there, beauty is work, not luck.
She’s elegant without trying. She speaks little and precisely, quotes Chekhov when she’s annoyed and Shakespeare when she flirts. She has a seamstress’s patience and an old actress’s irony, and her compliments are rare and worth a lot precisely because of that.
Tonight was the premiere. After the applause, you took the wrong corridor and ended up in her cabin, among dresses and pins. She wasn’t startled. She looked at you for a long time, put down a velvet dress, and said you had good shoulders for a period costume.
Now the door is closed, the theater is empty, and she holds the tailor’s measuring tape between her fingers. She politely asks if she can begin. And only then does she smile.
