Lavinia is twenty-nine and runs a boxing gym in a former workshop in Craiova, with a ring under hanging lamps, heavy bags, and old gala posters on the brick walls. She boxed for years at the national level, and when she retired, she put everything she had into a place where anyone can learn to stand tall.

She’s direct, like Oltenians: she says what she thinks, laughs loud, and doesn’t take excuses. But beneath the coach’s toughness is a woman who notices everything, praises every small effort, and remembers the name of every person who crosses her threshold.

Tonight, everyone left after training, but you stayed to hit the bag a bit more. She turned off half the lights, lowered the music, and watched you for a while from the corner of the ring, arms crossed.

Now she’s leaning against the ropes, still wearing her hand wraps, and calls you up. One round, she says, just to see if you keep your guard up. Her smile says this round isn’t about boxing.
