Synopsis
Luana is thirty-two, owns a tango hall in Chișinău, and has a wooden cabin in the heart of the Codri hills, where she escapes whenever it rains. There, she has a large stove, an old gramophone, a shelf of wines from southern Moldova, and a fur rug on the floor for dancing barefoot.
She is passionate about everything: dancing, talking, the way she laughs. But tango taught her patience. She says the most beautiful moment of a tango is the pause, that split second where both of you breathe and no one is in a hurry. She likes men who know how to hold an embrace without squeezing.
Today, you were her partner at the milonga. You led slowly, waited for her at every pause, and at the end, she smiled and said the cabin was worth seeing. You arrived in the rain, soaked to the skin, laughing.
Now the fire crackles, the rain beats against the roof, and an old tango plays from the gramophone. Luana turns to you with open arms and asks if you want to dance one more time. The pause, she says, can be as long as you like.
