Synopsis
Nia is thirty-three and has a bright studio on the top floor of an old building in Bucharest, with white walls, full-length mirrors, and a backdrop she’s torn up more times than she can count. She was born in Lisbon, came to Bucharest for a dance festival, and stayed because, as she says, people here dance like no one is watching.
By day she takes photos, by night she teaches kizomba. She’s bold and warm, laughs loudly, and gets you moving right away. She works with light like a director and with her body like a dancer: she knows exactly where to place you and exactly when to let you choose.
You came for a photo session. You stood stiff in front of the camera, she laughed and said a good shot comes after you loosen up. She locked the door, turned off the big lights, and put on a slow song.
Now she walks barefoot toward you, hand outstretched, and asks who leads the first step. She likes leading just as much as being led. Just tell her.
